Abstract Home Page

Based on the analysis of reviewers' scores, abstracts have been allocated oral or poster presentation slots. ALL PRESENTERS ARE REMINDED TO REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE BY 01 OCTOBER, or your abstract will be removed from the schedule.

This year the abstract submission process will be similar to that used in San Diego. You will be submitting your abstract twice: Once by pasting the text into the Abstract Submission Form, and again by uploading it as a Word document (using the formatting given below). The text of these documents should be identical. One form will be used to compile the Abstract Book/CD, the other will be submitted to peer review. Please keep in mind that the Abstract Submission Form does not accept formatting (bold, italics etc.). These can be noted in the comments section at the end of the page. However, please ensure that all formatting and symbols are correct in the Word document version of the abstract.

Students submitting abstracts for award consideration, please note: It is your responsibility to ensure that your advisor sends an e-mail to sciprog@marinemammalogy.org in order to confirm that the research presented is primarily the student’s own work, and that participation by other authors is secondary or advisory in nature. This e-mail must be received by 10 June 2007.

Formatting for abstract submission in MS Word:

Please follow these formatting guidelines carefully. Abstracts should be left justified. The font should be Times New Roman, 10 point, except for the title, which is bold and 11 point. The Affiliations are numbered with parentheses and italicized. The e-mail address of the corresponding author should follow the list of affiliations. The abstract text is limited to 300 words.

This is what a sample abstract should look like in your Word Document before you upload it:

When you submit your abstract, please keep in mind:

  1. Abstracts will be accepted until 10 June 2007.
  2. An individual may be FIRST author on only ONE abstract.
  3. Only ONE presentation (oral OR poster) is allowed per person.

Ready to proceed? We recommend doing so in the following sequence:

  1. Read the Abstract Review Criteria.
  2. Draft your abstract then ask a constructively critical colleague to score it with the Abstract Review Form.
  3. Format and save your final abstract in a Word Document as per the example above.
  4. Complete, then submit the Abstract Submission Form by the deadline given above.
