Information regarding the conference grant was provided at the end of 2006 in the SMM newsletter.
The Society for Marine Mammalogy has a programme of conference grants to a limited number of colleagues in developing and soft-currency countries. In the past grants typically have been made to two to five people. Funding for the programme has been doubled for the Cape Town conference because of increased costs. The purpose is to promote international scientific participation in the biennial conferences. The grants cover all or part of the costs of attending the conference. The programme is open to principal investigators in universities and government agencies. SMM Membership or having an abstract accepted for the conference are not requirements but applicants are encouraged to submit an abstract. Applications for a grant for the 17th Biennial Conference in Cape Town should be directed to the chair of the Committee on International Relations, Bill Perrin, and include a brief description of employment and research situation, current projects, reason for application, and support requested. Length of the application should be limited to not more than 1500 words. The applications will be reviewed and ranked by the Committee and grants awarded based on relevance of research and nature of need. The deadline for applications was 1 March 2007.
Applications should have been e-mailed to: William F. Perrin - William.perrin@noaa.gov If you are a student, please visit the students travel grant page
