Conference Venue

The chosen venue of the conference is the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town, South Africa. This world-class centre with its strategic location, modern design, state-of-the-art facilities and impressive capacity is renowned as an excellent conference, trade and entertainment venue. The Centre comprises some 10,000m2 of exhibition space including auditoriums, a grand ballroom, meeting rooms, conservatories and exhibition halls. Officially opened to international trade and business in June 2003, the CTICC has contributed significantly towards the growth of business tourism and the promotion of music and the arts in Cape Town.

The CTICC is a 20 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport, which is serviced by 19 airlines, making Cape Town an accessible and convenient destination. Cape Town is simply a direct overnight flight from European and American cities. The temperate Mediterranean climate attracts millions of visitors each year, especially while the Northern Hemisphere is in the grip of winter.

Please view the CTICC website for further details on the venue:

CONFERENCE LAYOUT

The proposed layout for the conference at the CTICC is extremely user-friendly.

Ground level. Registration will take place at the southern end of the foyer. Hall 1 (leading off the foyer) will be the venue for posters and tea/coffee breaks. The Jasminum and Clivia Conservatories will be available for lunches.

Level one. The speaking venues (Auditorium & Ballroom) are adjacent to each other: the Ballroom will be divided into two (Ballroom East and West). Seating capacities are Auditorium 1,500, Ballroom East 550 cinema style and Ballroom West 650 cinema style. Meeting rooms east of the Ballroom will house a Speaker-ready Room, Conference Office and Society Board Room.

Basement. The Green Room (immediately below the Auditorium and reached via elevator) has been provided for the use of Presentation Judges.

Movement between levels is possible by escalator, stairs or lift.

Workshops.
Meeting rooms 2.41-2.46 at the CTICC and a venue at the South African Museum (Iziko) have been reserved for pre-conference workshops (see the Workshop page for more details).

Notes:
The entire CTICC is a smoke-free zone internally, although some outside balconies are available as smoking areas.
The entire CTICC save for the speaking venues is active for wireless internet access, for which a charge will be levied (payable at the CTICC reception desk). The CTICC also houses a small commercial business centre at which normal fax and e-mail facilities are available.
There is an in-house bureau de change, and several ATM machines.
There is a clinic on site with a fully trained nurse available during normal working hours.

The V&A Waterfront restaurants cater for various tastes, including traditional Cape Malay Cuisine and other local foods and wines. For African arts & crafts, visit the Red Shed or Greenmarket Square.
